Mary West has been a Staff Accountant at Aurora since 2015 when she left her job as a Research Assistant at Vanderbilt University to join the family business with her mother Sandra. Having a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Mathematics, she started with little formal education in accounting and taxation. She quickly learned on the job and gained valuable insight as a tax preparer, bookkeeper, and accountant. In 2017 after gaining an understanding of accounting she wanted to solidify her knowledge with formal coursework, so she completed a certificate program through the Harvard Business’s HBX CORe program. She earned a certificate in Business Analytics with honors, a certificate in Economics for Managers, and a certificate in Financial Accounting.
She is highly proficient in problem solving and strives to find useful processes to solve the tedious problems involved with growing a business. Her main focus and role at Aurora is to solve high-level accounting problems, work on complicated tax projects, and stay up to date on information regarding the constantly changing framework that our clients have to navigates. She is inspired by the business owners who take risks and make sacrifices to create businesses which impact the world and support people's families. She loves the team here at Aurora and how they care deeply about each other and the clients we serve. She is always looking for opportunities to expand her own utility to her clients and Aurora as a whole.
In her personal life she enjoys the great outdoors and travel. She loves to go on long walks outside, even better if it's far from a grocery store and she has everything she needs in her backpack. She is grateful for the love and support of her family and strives to be the best auntie in the world to her nieces and nephews.
