Mary E. A. West

Senior Staff Accountant

Mary West has been a Staff Accountant at Aurora since 2015 when she left her job as a Research Assistant at Vanderbilt University to join the family business with her mother Sandra.  Having a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Mathematics she started with little formal education in accounting and taxation.  She has learned quickly on the job and has gained valuable insight as a tax preparer, bookkeeper, and accountant through experience and diligent research.  In 2017 after gaining a working understanding of accounting she wanted to solidify that knowledge with formal coursework, so she completed a certificate program with Honors in Business Analytics, Economics for Managers, and Financial accounting through the Harvard Business HBX CORe program.  She is highly proficient in problem solving and strives to find useful processes and software tools to solve the tedious problems involved in growing a business.  Her main focus and role at Aurora is to solve high level accounting problems, work on complicated tax projects, and stay up to date and informed regarding the constantly changing regulatory framework our clients have to navigate to run their businesses and keep more of their hard earned money for themselves.  She is inspired by the amazing people she has the opportunity to work with: the business owners who take risks and make sacrifices to create businesses which impact the world and support people's families; and the team of amazing women here at Aurora that care deeply about each other and the clients we serve.  She is always looking for opportunities to expand her own utility to her clients and Aurora as a whole.  In her personal life she enjoys the great outdoors and travel.  She loves to go on long walks outside, even better if it's far from a grocery store and she has everything she needs in her backpack.  She likes to cook and experiment with fermenting various things, she is a scientist at heart.  She is grateful for the love and support of her family and strives to be the best auntie in the world to her nieces and nephews.  She enjoys teaching them how to use a chef's knife when they are far too young, or encouraging them to climb trees and see the world from above, and overall to push the boundaries of life to see what is possible.
